Welcome to our NHL Fantasy Blueline premiere edition! For the remainder of the NHL season, we will take a look at each division to see what impact there is for fantasy owners. I will probably not offer deep, detailed coverage on each team, but I will do my best to hit the key points of each.
Let me just get this out of the way: the Montreal Canadiens have just been piss poor. They continue to get great matchup after great matchup and just get pummeled. They have clearly given up and I have a hard time promoting any of these guys. Boston has been struggling as well. I really like this second Detroit line with Tatar and Datsyuk. I have a feeling that is where the fire is coming from. Sam Reinhart has been playing well too. He’s got a bright future ahead of him, and he should be on your radar in dynasty leagues
If he is available in your league, Devante Smith-Pelly is one of my favorites to target and has been really paying off for me lately. New Jersey isn’t a favorite of many because of their slow pace, but who cares if they are scoring goals? Pittsburgh has really turned things on in the last few weeks. I really believe they have 3 strong lines, with the Cullen/Rust/Kuhnhackl line having just a huge game on Sunday. I think there is a lot worse you can do than picking up any of those guys if they are available.
Nino Niederreiter and Justin Fontaine have been on fire this week. Nino is probably not around, but Fontaine may not be a bad pickup seeing as how well this line has been playing. Nathan McKinnon has been dealing with some illness/injuries. Mikkel Boedker has been paying dividends lately, though he’s had some fantasy friendly matchups. He is a good bet on many nights to be involved in the scoring that is going to happen. The Jets continue to be a great team to target against, so if you are looking for any type of streaming options, their opponents make sense.
Kris Versteeg has a tremendous week, and he is a guy I would pick up if I had the chance. Sami Vatanen is still out, and while he is, Hampus Lindholm is the guy I want to have as a replacement. This division is actually pretty stable in terms of fantasy performers. There are not very many major injuries, though Oliver Ekmann Larsson is still hurt and Michael Stone has been the top defensemen in his stead.
That is it for this week! It will probably only get slower from here!
