NHL DFS Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 2/1/18

Welcome to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s NHL Breakdown. These picks are what I consider to be the best play of the day, relative to their price. One of the most important things we must consider in daily fantasy is how many points a player gets per dollar. It helps us identify value plays to pair with studs that we know will produce in order to maximize our potential points in lineups. I also try to identify plays that can be used in either cash games or tournaments. Typically, when I build my cash games, I am looking for players that have the best floor combined with good upside. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know!

Prices listed are FanDuel/DraftKings

Jack Eichel (7800/7100) – Better luck next time, right? On Tuesday, Eichel was one of my favorite plays and he and his teammates just sucked. There is really no other way to put it. He gets a chance to redeem himself tonight as the Sabres take on the Panthers on home ice. I think we will get retribution and a nice score from Eichel.

Adam Henrique (5300/4800) – Henrique has just been awesome lately, and he is carrying a good price. He centers the teams third line and also sees time on the top power play unit. I think the matchup is great and I would expect him to pay off tonight.

Jason Spezza (4900/4300) – With this matchup on the road and the price of Spezza so much cheaper than the top line in Dallas, I want to get exposure tonight. He has solid upside, and should see more chances as the Coyotes try to stop the top line. I guess I would look his way more in tournaments but I do not really mind either way.

Wings –

Taylor Hall (8000/7300) – Hall is awesome. I do not care who this team is playing and I basically do not care about his price if he is going to continue to produce. The Flyers are not a tough team defensively, and I fully expect Hall to see the best matchups of all the lines.

Johnny Gaudreau (7700/6800) – I will almost always take Gaudreau on home ice. The coaching staff will find a way to put him in position to win, and I think you are looking at multi-point upside here.

Sebastian Aho (6700/6100) – Usually I want to run with Jeff Skinner when this team is on home ice, but is seems like the Aho line is doing the damage. Because of that, I will fire him up in a great matchup against the Canadiens. The slate is big enough that you will not see huge ownership most likely, making this even better.

Defensemen –

Darnell Nurse (4700/4700) – Nurse is getting the job done and basically does not need to score to hit value. He will get there on shots on goal and blocked shots alone. Anything above that is just a plus. Very good matchup tonight against Colorado at home.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson (5100/4300) – I remember when OEL was one of the better defensemen in the game and we all probably would have laughed at thinking about his price being here. Flash forward a few down years and here we are. Dallas has been poor against defensemen for a few years now, and even though OEL has not been great, it is tough to pass up the upside at his price on DraftKings.

Tyler Myers (4600/4000) – With Jacob Trouba out, there is some value in Winnipeg. I would label Myers volatile, but at this price, I think you will be willing to risk it. I think we will see him get at least a few shots on goal and blocked shots, and he could luck into a point which would help him crush value.

Goalies –

Al Montoya (7300/7000) – If this is the first time you have read my breakdowns and think I sound intelligent, stop right here. I cannot get a goalie right to save my life. Granted, tonight this is a risky goalie, but I could take a goalie starting against an AHL team and he will give up 5 goals. Montoya is appealing to me based on his success in limited action and the fact that the Avalanche will be down Nathan MacKinnon.
