NHL DFS Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 1/30/18

Welcome to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s NHL Breakdown. These picks are what I consider to be the best play of the day, relative to their price. One of the most important things we must consider in daily fantasy is how many points a player gets per dollar. It helps us identify value plays to pair with studs that we know will produce in order to maximize our potential points in lineups. I also try to identify plays that can be used in either cash games or tournaments. Typically, when I build my cash games, I am looking for players that have the best floor combined with good upside. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know!

Prices listed are FanDuel/DraftKings

John Tavares (8400/7700) – If I am spending up at the center position tonight, it will be with Tavares. He is in a great matchup and this happens to be on home ice. That will be important as the Islanders will be able to make the best line moves to benefit them. He is pricey, but he is in a great spot to produce.

Jack Eichel (7800/6900) – I am expecting a huge second half from Eichel, and I think it will start tonight. The Devils are not a great defensive team, and Eichel really does have as much upside as Tavares, except we are getting a discount. I will probably go with him in tournaments.

Paul Byron (4300/4400) – Byron was getting some good looks going into the break and I would expect him to be in a situation to produce again tonight. The Canadiens will go on the road against the Blues, who have not been a solid defensive team. I would expect Byron to be lightly owned, and though I do not love him as much as the others, he makes a decent salary saver.

Wings –

Vladimir Tarasenko (8300/7400) – Tarasenko is the third highest priced winger on both FanDuel and DraftKings. He has not been a monster any time recently, but he still possesses that upside. The Canadiens will give up goals here, and I like using Tarasenko in tournaments. If I am pressed between he and Tavares, I am going Tavares.

Brock Boeser (6700/6500) – Boeser is looking to continue having an awesome year in the second half, and they get a great shot tonight against the Avalanche. He is priced higher than I would like, but he does carry some serious tournament winning upside.

Jeff Skinner (5700/6100) – Skinner is one of my favorites who I just really have not been able to play much this year. I love the matchup at home tonight. He takes on the Senators, which could be a high scoring affair. I really only use Skinner at home, so I am hoping he comes through tonight.

Defensemen –

Roman Josi (6200/6400) – This is one of the plays that is just about points. He is an extremely safe floor while having a big upside. He is very productive and I do not see why he will not be fairly highly owned. I know spending down on defensemen is preferred, but this is a good play.

Erik Karlsson (6500/5800) – This is mostly a DraftKings play, but honestly, the price is very good over there. It is almost too hard to look past. I think he is playable in both formats, and I will have a pretty good ownership stake of him tonight.

Patrik Nemeth (3600/3700) – Nemeth is someone I have been using all year, though he has been more disappointing than not lately. However, with the guys I want to play tonight I need some value. Nemeth can get it with blocked shots, so tht alone makes him a decent play.

Goalies –

Robin Lehner (7400/7200) – There are no real goalies that I like tonight, so I will go with someone like Lehner, who has a huge boom/bust capability. I do not love the idea of the Devils on the road without Taylor Hall, so Lehner it is.
