NHL DFS Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 1/23/18

Welcome to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s NHL Breakdown. These picks are what I consider to be the best play of the day, relative to their price. One of the most important things we must consider in daily fantasy is how many points a player gets per dollar. It helps us identify value plays to pair with studs that we know will produce in order to maximize our potential points in lineups. I also try to identify plays that can be used in either cash games or tournaments. Typically, when I build my cash games, I am looking for players that have the best floor combined with good upside. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know!

Prices listed are FanDuel/DraftKings

Patrice Bergeron (8200/7400) – It is really tough to look past how well the top line of the Bruins has been playing of late. Bergeron is a few games removed from a hat trick, and gets another huge matchup here against the Devils. They are at home and should find tons of chances to score.

Vincent Trocheck (6800/6500) – Trocheck is one of the few reliable pieces on this Panthers team. I like using him on the road a little bit more, and that is where he finds himself tonight. The Stars are always capable of giving up some goals and I like Trocheck to get involved in the scoring tonight.

Erik Haula (5600/5700) – One of my favorite things to do has been playing the Golden Knights when they are at home. Well, here we are, and they are in a solid matchup against the Blue Jackets. Haula is one of those mid-priced skaters that could very easily be a strong play tonight.

Wings –

Vladimir Tarasenko (8200/7300) – Lets try this again. Last time we saw the Blues, they were at home in an awesome matchup against the Avalanche. They proceeded to fall flat on their faces within ten minutes, and found themselves down 4-0 nothing. Tonight is a new chance for redemption, and the Senators are a team that can give up big games. Do us right tonight!

Max Pacioretty (7200/6100) – Just like we had Johnny Gaudreau yesterday, we have Max Pacioretty today. What I mean by that is guys that we like playing much more on home ice. Colorado is on the wrong end of a back to back and I think Pacman should get in the back of the net a few times tonight.

Patrick Maroon (5800/5300) – Maroon is the top play tonight from a pricing standpoint. He is probably $1.5k underpriced and will not be for long. Connor McDavid is a great facilitator, and the Sabres are not a good hockey team. Lock and load on Maroon again tonight.

Defensemen –

John Klingberg (6700/6300) – Klingberg has been on fire as of late and at home against the Panthers, he has to be in a number of my lineups. He is going to cost you, but he has pretty sure production at the position. He is enough of a discount from Brent Burns to be my top defender.

Darnell Nurse (4600/4500) – Nurse contributes in so many ways, so even if he is not involved in the scoring, he can still get you points. I like him at this price in both cash games and tournaments, so do not hesitate to use him tonight.

Adam McQuaid (3500/2900) – Charlie McAvoy is going to miss some time, so someone is going to need to step up. We already know what Torey Krug and Zdeno Chara are, so it is worth looking to someone cheaper. I believe McQuaid will see his time tick up and has a great price and matchup.

Goalies –

Tuukka Rask (9200/8300)  – Rask should be in the net tonight and has the perfect matchup against the Devils. They are on a back to back and without their top star, so this should be a nice night for Rask.
