NHL DFS Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 1/18/18

Welcome to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s NHL Breakdown. These picks are what I consider to be the best play of the day, relative to their price. One of the most important things we must consider in daily fantasy is how many points a player gets per dollar. It helps us identify value plays to pair with studs that we know will produce in order to maximize our potential points in lineups. I also try to identify plays that can be used in either cash games or tournaments. Typically, when I build my cash games, I am looking for players that have the best floor combined with good upside. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know!

Prices listed are FanDuel/DraftKings

Nathan MacKinnon (8100/7400) – MacKinnon is a great play tonight. I considered Steven Stamkos here, but opted for MacKinnon. He is on home ice and in a favorable matchup against the Sharks. That is enough for me. I would expect his excellent play to continue.

Sean Couturier (7100/6700) – Lets here it for one of the many chalk plays that completely killed us on Tuesday! Today is a different day, and I am fine with going back to Couturier. His line should be the productive one here in a home battle against the Maple Leafs.

Paul Stastny (5500/5700) – Stastny and his line continue to roll, so I will gladly take the price and plug him in all of my lineups. Ottawa is nothing to be scared of, and I would expect Stastny to put together another solid game this evening.

Wings –

Taylor Hall (7800/7200) – Hall is just on autopilot right now and nothing is going to keep me from playing him. He is a surefire cash game staple for me tonight, and still carries upside in tournaments. Washington goaltending is not what it once was, making Hall a great option tonight.

Artemi Panarin (7200/6200) – Panarin is a guy who is not as stable as Hall, but still provides excellent floor and upside for your lineups. He is the staple of this Blue Jackets team right now, and Dallas has been playing a lot as of late. He is one of my favorite options tonight.

Joonas Donskoi (3900/3400) – Donskoi was not written up in my last article, but was still someone I used heavily. The price is just too favorable. The Sharks, outside of probably Burns and Couture, are untrustworthy options for cash games, but make sense in tournament lineups. Donskoi has shown good upside, which is why I will not hesitate going there tonight.

Defensemen –

Alex Pietrangelo (5800/6500) – Pietrangelo seems mispriced on FanDuel, so I will primarily target him there, though I still do see the merit in using him on DraftKings. He produces. That is what you want from your players, yes? Sure, it is nice to get them at a discount, but I do not want to move off of someone just because of their price, in this situation at least.

Charlie McAvoy (4700/4900) – McAvoy is not a consistent guy, which we would prefer, but I am willing to bite the bullet and risk it tonight on the road against the Islanders. The Islanders goal keeping is just bad, so I expect Boston to have some some success. If that is the case, I could see McAvoy having a good night.

Alec Martinez (4700/4500) – I am loving Martinez tonight with the Penguins coming to town. He might not be a shooter and he does not get you goals or assist often, but he provides a safe floor with blocked shots and shots on goal. The price is fair and he is going to be a guy I use to fit others into my lineups tonight.

Goalies –

Henrik Lundqvist (9200/8400) – My goalie woes continue, but I will roll with King Henrik tonight. The Sabres are a team that can get shut down quick, and Lundqvist proved to be able to do that with the Flyers the other night. I think he should be worth the risk.
