NHL DFS Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 1/13/18

Welcome to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s NHL Breakdown. These picks are what I consider to be the best play of the day, relative to their price. One of the most important things we must consider in daily fantasy is how many points a player gets per dollar. It helps us identify value plays to pair with studs that we know will produce in order to maximize our potential points in lineups. I also try to identify plays that can be used in either cash games or tournaments. Typically, when I build my cash games, I am looking for players that have the best floor combined with good upside. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know!

Prices listed are FanDuel/DraftKings

Tyler Seguin (8100/7500) – Seguin on home ice against the Avalanche seems like a great place to start things tonight. He has been playing at a high level lately, and his price is still a little bit lower than I would have expected. He is one of the first guys going into my lineups tonight.

William Karlsson (6400/6200) – It is tough to figure out exactly how things will play out, but Karlssons line looks like the better one right now. His price is fair and I think he and his linemates should be able to get at least one in the back of the net tonight.

Mikko Koivu (5400/4700) – Minnesota is always a tough read, but I am willing to buy into Koivu at this price. He is a got guy to drop in your cash game lineups due to his price and a decent floor. Lets be real: everyone has a floor of 0. He is likely to get you at least 2 fantasy points.

Wings –

Taylor Hall (7500/7300) – Hall is a worthwhile investment tonight. He has back to back crazy games and is taking on a Flyers team that can be beat. I think he and Seguin are the ones I want to build around, so I am going to have to find some value around them to make it happen.

Mikael Granlund (6800/6200) – I do not love putting two guys from the Wild here, but Granlund has great numbers at home. In a positive matchup at home, he is certainly worth a look.

Alex Galchenyuk (4800/4900) – Galchenyuk is not very flashy, but he is cheap and has a pretty solid floor. Boston is a tough team, but this strikes me as being a matchup he will have success in. This is purely a price point play for me.

Defensemen –

Brent Burns (7300/7200) – Burns against the Coyotes seems like a perfect situation. What can go wrong? Because of this being an ideal matchup, I will be using him heavily. Pairing him with a teammate could be tough, but I am fine with rolling him solo.

Ivan Provorov (4900/5100) – Provorov has been going ham the last few games. Why not run with the hot hand? The Devils are nothing to write home about, so I am willing to roll Provorov out in all formats tonight.

Darnell Nurse (4200/3800) – No idea how things turned out for Nurse last night since this was written before the game started, but I am back on tonight. The price is too cheap for the upside, so I need to have some exposure tonight.

Goalies –

Marc Andre-Fleury (8000/8300) – I cannot get a goalie right to save my life, but Fleury seems like a solid option. He will be super popular, but it makes sense. The Oilers are on a back to back and have not been killing it either.
