NHL DFS Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 1/12/18

Welcome to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s NHL Breakdown. These picks are what I consider to be the best play of the day, relative to their price. One of the most important things we must consider in daily fantasy is how many points a player gets per dollar. It helps us identify value plays to pair with studs that we know will produce in order to maximize our potential points in lineups. I also try to identify plays that can be used in either cash games or tournaments. Typically, when I build my cash games, I am looking for players that have the best floor combined with good upside. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know!

Prices listed are FanDuel/DraftKings

Centers:

Connor McDavid (9000/8100) – McDavid is playing really well right now and gets to take on an Arizona team that loves to give up goals. Sure, we would like to play him at home, but this really is not that much of a deal breaker for me. He should be able to dominate tonight.

Aleksander Barkov (7100/7000) – Barkov is one of the most consistent players in all of hockey. If Florida has a big game, it is probably because of him or Trochek. The price is fair for what he brings to the table and I want to have him in some of my lineups tonight.

Pierre Luc-Dubois (5700/5400) – As long as he is skating on a line with Artemi Panarin, I am going to consider Dubois. I think a lot of people will go to Nick Schmaltz tonight and I do not mind that either. I really like the matchup for the Blue Jackets against the Canucks, so I will give DuBois the edge.

Wings –

Kyle Connor (5100/6000) – Connor is a better value on FanDuel, but I will still play him on DraftKings. I do not think he is someone I am looking at in cash games, but he has tournament upside. Winnipeg has been hot, but their scoring can come from multiple lines.

Clayton Keller (5400/5700) – Keller is another rookie in a good position tonight. He will be on home ice taking on an Edmonton team that gives up goals like there is no tomorrow. Keller has seen points in the year where he is hotter, but it has to start somewhere. Hopefully, it is tonight.

Sebastian Aho (6700/5200) – Aho is much better to be used on DraftKings due to a large price difference. The Capitals have been giving up goals this year, and Aho has been hot for the most part recently. I like him in all formats tonight.

Defensemen –

Mark Giordano (5800/5500) – Giordano is another guy who is white hot and he plays significantly better on the road. Florida can give up some goals, giving him a ton of upside. I think his floor is really safe as well, so this is likely to be where I start on the defensive side of things.

Jacob Trouba  (4800/5200) – It is tough to decipher the Jets defensemen, but I will roll with Trouba tonight. The price is fair, and as of late, he seems to have higher upside than others. This could be a high scoring affair, so I think he makes a nice stacking option.

Darnell Nurse (4200/3700) – I do not know why, but I just seem to get this guy right. He is cheap on both sites, and Edmonton should score some goals this evening. I think I am fine with using him in both formats. He could burn us, but I am still willing to give it a shot.

Goalies –

Connor Hellebuyck (8100/8100) – I do not really like any of the goalies tonight. With how well the Jets are playing, I will give Hellebuyck the nod. He has as good a shot as anyone else to come through for us.
