Welcome back for another edition of our NHL Breakdown. Tonight, we get a 5 game slate. Very small slate, but with the season running out, we are playing.
Many people will be on opening day baseball, but this is a great opportunity to play on one of the final nights of the NHL season.
On to the picks!
Ondrej Palat – If anything happens in the absence of Steven Stamkos, it would be that Palat, Kucherov and Johnson will need to be the ones to step up. The matchup is fair against the Islanders tonight, and the Lightning are in full top seed chase.
Jussi Jokinen – I love all of Florida tonight, but most specifically the second line. I do think many will be on the top line, and I don’t think that is wrong. I just think the second line is in a great spot too, and comes in a little lower priced.
Milan Lucic –Lucic is another guy in a prime matchup that I will look to exploit. Anyone against the Canucks is fair game, but I especially like Lucic tonight. He lets you save some money on a night where you will need to spend at goalie.
Vladimir Tarasenko – Arizona might have shut Washington out on Sunday, something that we eluded to in our write up then. They will not come close to doing the same to the Blues on the road. This should be an ugly one, and I expect a big night out of Tarasenko.
Jaromir Jagr – If you want to go with the top line, Jagr makes a great play. He has been amazing this year, and nothing makes me shy away from him. I don’t even mind playing the ex-Penguin duo tonight.
Mats Zuccarello Aasen –I want to have some exposure to the Rangers in a good position against the hapless Blue Jackets tonight. He won’t break the bank and could be in for a big night
Derrick Brassard – Keeping on the Rangers theme, I love Brassard in this spot against the Blue Jackets tonight. I’m still sticking to me either Derrick approach, but I’ll side with Brassard this evening.
Tyler Johnson – I would echo the same sentiment here for Johnson as I did Palat. Johnson is more than likely going to have to move up to the top line and while there should have ample opportunities to get involved.
Nick Bjugstad– Bjugstad is just too cheap and is going to be seeing more time with Jussi, which is something I value in this road matchup. I think there is a good shot that he scores tonight and will do so at a lower cost.
Drew Doughty– Doughty is in a great situation against a team that can’t do anything well, let alone guard defensemen. He is going to cost you, and there is certainly an argument on a night like tonight he could be too expensive, but he should be able to return value as well.
Kevin Shattenkirk – Shattenkirk is in play tonight for a number of reasons. First and foremost is they are home and taking on a horrible road Coyotes team. I want to try to get him in my lineups tonight if at all possible.
Aaron Ekblad – If you want to save some money, Ekblad isn’t the worst option this evening. He tends to be a boom or bust option, though his boom isn’t exactly that great if we are being honest. Still the matchup is right.
Brian Elliot – Tonight does not look like a night to skimp on goalie, which is why Elliot will most likely be in my lineups tonight. Matchup is good, and should see a ton of goal support.
Jon Quick – I have never once gotten Quick right. Every time I think he is in a good spot, he makes me sad. It doesn’t get much better than this though. Vancouver can certainly play spoiler in this situation though.
