Welcome back for another edition of our NHL Breakdown. Tonight, we get a 10 game slate. This is my favorite sized slate, and should bring enough diversity to make things interesting.
Tuesday was crazy, as FanDuel had all the Stars studs minus Benn at minimum price. I almost missed this and I didn’t realize it until 6:30, just in time that change all of my lineups. It doesn’t appear that any freebies like that are available today.
On to the picks!
Jamie Benn –Benn finished Monday with 2 goals against Nashville, and gets an even better situation tonight at home against Arizona. If there is one player I want on my roster tonight, it is Benn. Don’t other think things here.
Zach Parise – Parise is a close second favorite for me tonight. I love the matchup on home ice against Ottawa, who should give up quite a few goals to this Wild team. Parise has 2 double digit fantasy games in his last three, and I think there is a good chance tonight that he makes it three out of four.
Tomas Hertl – I want some exposure tonight to San Jose, and basically my favorite way to do so is with Hertl. He was very quiet in their matchup on Tuesday, but I think he will rebound tonight and end up with at least one point in a plus matchup.
Mats Zuccarello Aasen – Aasen gets the benefit of playing on the second line and the top power play unit in a favorable road matchup against Carolina. I like him to score tonight in this one and will also probably be lightly owned considering other players at the position in better matchups.
Jaromir Jagr – I know I want some piece of Florida tonight, and I know I want it on the top line. I love the ageless wonders price, and he should be able to be involved with at least one goal today, and certainly has plenty of upside beyond that.
Sam Reinhart – I will probably have players from both side of this game as I like it a lot, but Reinhart in particular sticks on to me. I like the fact that he is playing at home, and should be on the top line with Eichel tonight. I think there is a very good chance he will score tonight, but there is also a risk that he could end up with a negative +/- due to how well the Leafs have been playing.
Sidney Crosby – Crosby is a good bet every night he steps on the ice to have anywhere from 4-14 points. For him to be worth it, I like to get around 7 or 8 out of him. It is certainly possible tonight on home ice against Nashville, but I don’t think he is a make or break play. Still, his upside is unlimited and if he has a big night, you’ll be playing from way behind.
Anze Kopitar – Kopitar is back on home ice, and even though he will likely not be playing with Lucic, he should still be a good bet to score against Calgary, who is very, very bad on the road. He is a great play in cash games tonight.
Nazem Kadri – Kadri is one of my favorite plays tonight, and I expect that he should see a good opportunity to score tonight. It feels dirty to say that the Leafs have been playing well, but the reality is they are. He is reasonably priced in a plus matchup tonight.
Brent Burns– Burns is easily the top defensemen on the board tonight. He always has multi point upside. Tonight, he gets a Vancouver team he has played well against in 2015. If you can fit him in your roster, it is probably a good idea.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson – I love playing blue-liners against the Stars. Tonight, one of the best in the game gets his turn. He runs a lot of risk on +/- sites without doubt, but he could also end up as the top scoring defensemen. Because of the matchup, I prefer him in tournaments.
Jared Spurgeon – Spurgeon is cheap, playing well and in a great matchup. He’s going to be a staple tonight in my cash games, and will have him in tournaments as well. Ottawa should cough up goals all night, and chances are, Spurgeon will be involved.
Devan Dubnyk – I really like the spot for this Wild team that has just been playing so much better lately. Dubnyk isn’t overly expensive, and offers consistency of late and upside. I expect him to face a decent amount of shots and get the win today.
Al Montoya – If you want to go a little riskier, Montoya and the Panthers should be a good bet to beat the Devils tonight. I don’t think he can shut them out, and he isn’t likely to see many shots, which limits his upside, but is a good bet for the win.
