Welcome back for another edition of our NHL Breakdown. Tonight, we get an 8 game slate. Perfect size slate, and a great time to turn things around
It has been a tough run for me over the past two weeks, but ultimately sometimes you just need to keep your head up and keep plugging along. DFS is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s tough to believe that sometimes, but it is the truth.
On to the picks!
Jamie Benn – Anytime there are games played between Sunday and Saturday, and on ice, and the Stars are playing, you have to give Benn and company a look. I don’t really care who they are playing, but tonight it is the Lightning, who haven’t been playing lights out hockey. I think there is a good chance that they get on the score sheet tonight.
Ondrej Palat – I love the second line for Tampa Bay, especially against a Stars team that gives up goals. There was some shuffling to the line, as now Kucherov has moved to the top line but I still like this line a lot tonight on the road.
Tomas Tatar – Detroits top line is absolutely frigid right now, but Tatar and Datsyuk on the second line have been taking care of business. Columbus has been known to give up goals and I like the opportunity tonight for Tatar.
Joe Pavelski – Arizona is going to give up some goals, and Pavelski, Thornton and Burns are about my favorites to take that action for San Jose tonight. I love these guys because they can put together a double digit fantasy line in the matter of minutes, and the opponent doesn’t get much better.
James Neal – Neal absolutely destroyed Edmonton on Monday, and gets another opportunity to cause some damage tonight against the Islanders. He can certainly pile up points in a heartbeat, and I think tonight he should at least get some kind of action.
Phil Di Giuseppe – The Hurricanes second line plays pretty well, and being that they are the road team tonight, I like them even more. Pittsburgh will score a lot of goals, but I also believe they will give a few up. If they do, it will likely be to this line.
Sidney Crosby – Crosby is now the lone focus on this team, and Carolina is ripe to be picked apart. I love him on home ice tonight, and he will likely be a staple in my cash games.
Anze Kopitar – The Kings will be popular as they are just playing crazy good tonight. At home, I like the top line the most, and it all starts with Kopitar. He is a good bet to score a goal tonight, and will be very popular in all formats.
Aleksander Barkov – I like to target Toronto, and even though that has caused me heartache lately, I don’t believe that to be the case tonight. I believe Florida will rip them a new one, and I think Barkov stands to be in on the action more than once.
Brent Burns – Burns is probably the most exciting defenseman in the league, and tonight he gets a prime matchup against the Coyotes. I look for him to easily pay off his salary, and could eclipse that double digit total.
Anton Stralman– Stralman has been playing fairly well lately, but the biggest reason for my desire to play him tonight is that Dallas gives up fantasy points in bunches to defensemen. He should easily be able to eclipse his value tonight.
Justin Shultz – I love the value that Schultz provides tonight, being on the top power play line with Crosby and company. That is a very big deal for a team with a good power play. I think he will be involved tonight and easily eclipse his meager salary.
Matthew Murray– I love the spot for the Penguins tonight, and I believe they should be involved in a good game that they win. It is certainly likely that Murray does not keep a clean sheet, but the win is highly likely.
Jon Quick – LA has been playing so well and I really like the possibility for another win here. Again, I do not think a shutout is likely, but at the same time, I do believe they should get the victory. Especially in cash games, that is a big deal.
