NHL Daily Fantasy Breakdown – 3/15

Welcome back for another edition of our NHL Breakdown. Tonight, we get an 8 game slate. I really like this slate size, as if offers enough picks to really differentiate your lineups from everyone else. I like many of the games on the slate, so it should be a fun night.

On to the picks!

WINGERS:

Alexander Ovechkin – After a less than stellar road trip, the Capitals return to play on home ice tonight. The opponent is the downward spiraling Carolina Hurricanes. I expect the Caps to come out firing on all cylinders tonight, and Ovechkin has been more quiet than usual lately. This is a recipe for a monster game, and I think it could happen tonight.

Ondrej Palat – I love the Lightning’s second line tonight, so I will have ample amounts of them in my tournament lineups. Kucherov is questionable tonight, but regardless, Palat is in a good position against a poor Maple Leafs team.

Tanner Pearson – The Kings just absolutely tore apart the Blackhawks last night, and have a quick turnaround tonight against Dallas. This is a high stakes game between two of the top teams in the Western Conference, but I expect goals to be scored and I think Pearson could be a good part of it.

Mark Stone – Minnesota is a team I like to target, and I like Stone’s chances at scoring tonight. He is seriously underpriced, considering he has points in 9 of his last 10 games. More importantly, in those 9 games, he has 14 points. That is a lot of activity. Get him in your lineups tonight!

Andreas Athanasiou – I’m going to offer up a few value plays tonight at the wing position. The first is Athanasiou, who sits on the second line of the Red Wings. The first line has been absolutely horrible for the better part of recent memory, but the second led by Gustav Nyquist has been doing well. Andreas is super quick, and could be a threat to breakaway and score tonight.

Sven Andrighetto – Andrighetto is another guy who is underpriced for the output he is giving. He plays on the top forward line and the top power play line in Montreal and has a nice little 3 game streak going. Florida isn’t a team I love to play against, but his price is so low and I do believe he can get in on a goal today.

CENTERS:

Sidney Crosby – Crosby is undoubtedly going to have to carry this team now that Malkin is out for the next 6-8 weeks with injury. Tonight, the Penguins have the Islanders on home ice. Crosby has amazing splits against the Islanders, and I expect a hungry Penguins team to come out swinging tonight with Crosby at the head.

Tyler Johnson – I’ve already gushed over the second Tampa Bay line enough today [and this year for that matter], but I have to illustrate how I think they will be the big winners tonight. Toronto has nothing that can slow them down and I look for a multi-point outing from this line.

Aleksander Barkov – Montreal has not been sound defensively this year, and this Florida team can score some goals, as evidenced last night. I like Barkov to be in on the action again tonight, and he is affordable on most sites.

DEFENSEMEN:

Kris Letang – If Crosby is going to carry this team, he will need help, and I expect that to come in the form of Letang. Letang is one of the best offensive blueliners in the league, and will need to step his game up tonight for the Penguins to pick up two points. He is going to cost you, but it could certainly pay off.

Nick Leddy– On the flip side of the game, I do believe the Penguins will give up some goals. Leddy is the point man on the power play, which had success in previous games against Pittsburgh. He is priced fairly and provides good upside at the position.

Matt Dumba – Normally, Ryan Suter is the suggested play, but I have been really impressed with Dumba lately. Ottawa isn’t going to keep Minnesota off the score sheet, and ultimately, it will likely be more than one goal. I like Dumba’s shot at being involved somehow tonight, and should pay off his salary.

GOALIES:

Braden Holtby – Holtby and his Washington teammates get the luxury of taking on the spiraling Carolina Hurricanes at home tonight. Vegas has them at huge favorites, with good cause. I expect this to be a good outing for Holtby, and he’ll be worth the price.

Ben Bishop – Another good option tonight is Ben Bishop going up against the Maple Leafs. While this game will be played on the road for the Lightning, I still like their chances to win the game, and Bishop should not let many past him tonight.

Good luck!
