NHL FanDuel & DraftKings DFS Picks – 1/9/17
We are back with another NHL DFS Breakdown. All eyes are on the college football championships tonight, so both the NHL and NBA are running tiny slates. The NHL slate consists of four games, which is why you see such a small write up. The number of games increase tomorrow, so we’ll be back to a full breakdown.
Prices listed are FD/DK.
Mark Scheifele (7600/6600) – The Winnipeg/Calgary game is one that I don’t mind taking a look at tonight. Scheifele has been pretty strong this season, and I think against Calgary on the road, he should be able to pull something off. It isn’t the best spot, to be sure, but it is something that can work out.
Travis Zajac (4700/4900) – Even on short slates, we want to find some places to cut corners, and this is a good place to do that tonight. I like the top line of New Jersey’s chances of scoring once or twice, and this is a discount on Zajac. I don’t think he has wild upside, but he could do well enough.
Jason Spezza (6600/6000) – This is somewhat cheating, as Spezza is only half a wing – because on DraftKings, he is only available as a center. He’s in a great position, as I think the Stars should be able to score on the Kings, and he is on one of the top lines in the league for doing that, but at a discount.
Tanner Pearson (5400/5000) – Pearson has been on point as of late, and carries a very, very small price tag for what he brings to the table. I think the Kings should be able to score a few goals at least tonight against the Stars. He’s going to see a lot of time at even strength and with the man advantage and makes an awesome play.
Jeff Petry (5500/5100) – I don’t think we really thought Petry was going to put something like this together when the year started out, but it’s where we are at now. This isnt’ even really a matchup thing here as much as I think Montreal will score some goals and I think Petry has a good chance of being involved.
Jacob Trouba (4900/4800) – The vast majority of Trouba’s production on the year has come within the last seven or so games, but that doesn’t matter much to me. I would say that I’d prefer him as a tournament option only, but I think he could pay off.
New Jersey Goalie – Every once in awhile, we get a short slate that has a pretty clear path at goalie. Tonight is not that night. If I am picking one, I am running with the Devil’s goalie on home ice. It might not be pretty, but I think they’ll get it done.
