NHL FanDuel & DraftKings DFS Picks – 1/24/17
Prices listed are FD/DK.
Sidney Crosby (9200/8300) – It doesn’t take too long to find my top player on this slate: Sidney Crosby. The Blues are just a wreck right now, and I couldn’t imagine a worse situation when you’re in disarray that having to take on Crosby and the Penguins. This is an easy choice for me.
John Tavares (8400/7200) – Tavares is another guy in a great matchup, as the Islanders take on the visiting Blue Jackets. Tavares has been playing absolutely tremendous hockey as of lately, and there is little question to me that he could have a monster game here.
Ryan Johansen (6500/5200) – Admittedly, I feel like I have been biased against the Predators this year, as I feel that I haven’t used many of their non-defensive players in our breakdowns, but that will change with Johansen tonight. I really like picking on the Sabres, as do most NHL DFS players, so you are in good company here.
Travis Zajac (4500/4600) – We’ve talked about some high dollar guys now at the center position, so let’s bring in a cheaper play in a good spot. The LA Kings haven’t been playing good defensive hockey, and I do like the Devils on home ice. That means I would be interested in using a guy like Travis Zajac tonight, as I think this top line could score a few times.
Andreas Athanasiou (4700/4500) –I’m looking toward the second line of the Red Wings today on the road against the Bruins and their poor defensive play against the position. With Thomas Vanek out it looks like, I would expect Andreas to have some more opportunities.
Robby Fabbri (4900/4600) –Fabbri is a tournament only option tonight against the Penguins, but most of it is because I think that St. Louis will score some goals here. He hasn’t been good at all lately, which is why he can only be considered in tournaments.
Patrick Eaves (5700/5000) – I know that on a whole, Devan Dubnyk has been very good this year, but he has been giving up some goals as of late. This Stars team is one that can definitely score, especially on home ice. The price on Eaves is too good here, so he’s a staple in basically everything I do tonight.
Jonathan Drouin (6400/5500) –Drouin remains one of my favorite plays tonight as the Lightning visit the Blackhawks. Both teams can score some goals, and both teams can give them up, so we could very well be in for a nice high scoring game. I think that Drouin is in line to put together a nice game.
Matt Niskanen (5500/4800) – With John Carlson out, Niskanen is soaking up all the extra opportunity, and he has been pretty productive with it. He’s really not much of your budget at all, and considering he’s got a fantastic matchup, I have no issues running him out in everything I play.
Dougie Hamilton (5900/5000) – Carey Price hasn’t looked very scary as of late, and while I would much rather Calgary being at home, that isn’t the case here. Hamilton is having a good year, and I think he should be able to be involved in some of the scoring that I am expecting to happen tonight.
Jordie Benn (3800/3300) – I feel uncomfortable making this pay, but for the price, I think Benn is the defensemen I would rather have from the Stars tonight. I would pay close attention to the starting lineup, though, as he seems to be scratched each and every time I think he’s in a good spot.
Dion Phaneuf (4700/4100) – Phaneuf isn’t in a great matchup or anything, but he is a pretty consistent performer. I think at this price, he’s a nice play for cash games, because I think he should come in with a nice night. If he is involved in a goal on top of that, it’s all a plus.
Nashville Goalie – I think my favorite goalie tonight will be on the Nashville side of things. The Sabres are a better team than in the past, but they still aren’t good enough that we want to go out of our way to avoid them. I’ll gladly buy in on Nashville tonight.
Washington Goalie – I normally don’t look to road goalies, and this is more of a gut pick than anything else, but I think I’ll be rolling out some of my lineups with the Capitals goalie. They’ve been playing well as of late, so I certainly think there is some upside here.
