NHL DFS Picks – 11/23/16

Wednesday is a huge night of NHL action, with 12 games on the slate, and plenty of options for us to sift through in an effort to put together some tournament winning lineups. We’ll do our best to cover the chalk plays as well as some options that are a little more out of the box to help you in tournaments.

Prices listed are FD/DK.

Centers:

Martin Hanzal (5700/5000) – Typically, I look to target the Coyotes, but I also like to target the Canucks, so I’ll give the advantage to the home team here. The prices on the Coyotes always seem to stay around this level, which makes them attractive in all formats, including cash games when they get in good matchups. Hanzal has basically been the top option on this team, and Ill gladly use him at this price.

Jeff Carter (7100/6400) – I love using the Kings when they play at home for no other reason than that they typically carry low ownership, so they become very good plays in tournaments. The matchup here against the Islanders is a plus one, and I can very easily see him finishing the night with a multi-point outing

Tyler Johnson (5800/5200) – Johnson didn’t do what we thought he could do in the last game, but we’ll gladly go back to the well in this one against a defensively challenged Flyers team. The price is very nice, and I think tonight will be the night that he comes through for us and pays us off in a big way. He’s an excellent value option.

Nathan MacKinnon (7000/6500) – MacKinnon has been on fire, and I don’t see tonight being the night to avoid him on home ice against the Edmonton Oilers. In fact, I like the play so much that I think I’m willing to put the player of the day label on MacKinnon and I think he should pull something big off tonight.

Wings:

Alex Ovechkin (8600/8600) – Ovechkin is just such a reliable source of fantasy production, and this is an excellent situation to target him. The Blues have been pretty bad this year at giving up goals, and will be on the road on a back to back, which simply just doesn’t spell good luck for them. As a result, I’ll toss Ovi in as many lineups as I can and watch him eat tonight.

James Neal (7200/6500) – Dallas is yet another team that lack defensive backbone, and that should result in the Predators scoring some goals tonight. Neal is an absolute steal for his price on DraftKings, so it will be a good idea to lock him into your lineups tonight. He is usable in either format, as he has a relatively safe floor.

Mitchell Marner (5900/6300) – I used Marner in this breakdown last night, and he’s back at it again tonight. The Devils can be had, and I think Marner should be able to put himself in position to do some damage with the puck. He’s a better play on FanDuel than DraftKings, but I’ll likely have exposure to him on both.

Patrick Eaves (5700/5800) – Eaves has been a nice source of fantasy production this year, despite most people waiting for the other shoe to drop. I would keep my exposure to him exclusive to tournaments, as Pekka Rinne has been very good in the last few weeks. If he isn’t in the net tonight, I would consider Eaves for cash.

Defensemen –

Brent Burns (8200/8400) – I can’t ever seem to get Burns right, but regardless, this is a pretty nice matchup. Chicago hasn’t been able to stop anyone, and despite the Sharks’ struggles, I expect them to get loose in this one. He’s going to cost you, but he could definitely end up putting up a score that no one else at the position can.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson (5900/5600) – OEL hasn’t really been very good as of late, but there is little question that the talent is there. On top of that, he gets the benefit of a good matchup against the Canucks. I think he makes a really nice tournament option here, and I really don’t hate him in cash games.

Zack Werenski (5400/6000) – Werenski’s price has gone up, and I don’t know how comfortable I feel about using him on DraftKings at that price. I think he’s got a lot of upside in this game, and if you can fit him into your cash game lineups, he should have a nice game for you. Calgary really has a tough time on defense.

Erik Johnson (5000/5200) – Johnson is also in a very nice spot here against Edmonton. I love the idea of pairing him with MacKinnon and moving on if you don’t want to run a full 4 or 5 player stack. He’s playable in either format and I think I’ll be playing lots of him, especially in my cash games tonight.

Goalies –

Nashville Goalie – As I said above, Pekka Rinne has been playing really, really well as of late, so I’m definitely going to use him a lot if he is in the lineup. I don’t see any reason to play around with this one, especially in cash games.

Los Angeles Goalie – The goalie play for Los Angeles hasn’t been very good, so it just comes down to the fact that I think they are likely to score way more than the Islanders. As a result, I think the Kings goalie should grab the victory here.
