Welcome back for another edition of our NHL Breakdown. Tonight, we get a 8 game slate, which is my favorite size slate to play. Not too big to get lost in the many options, but big enough to keep lineups more diverse.

On to the picks!

Filip Forsberg – This dude is awesome. I mean, he is playing great hockey, and he gets the benefit of taking on a Winnipeg team that isn’t stopping anyone right now.  They are also awful at killing the penalty, so it looks like Forsberg is in a good spot.

Taylor Hall – Hall is another guy that is playing well, and he gets the benefit of playing on the power play as well as in the top 6. San Jose is coming off an overtime win against Calgary who played them tough yesterday, so they could be a bit tired.

Jeff Skinner – There isn’t much to like in Carolina these days, but Skinner can certainly be a reason to like them. Ottawa is not a threatening team at all, and even though they can score, they can give up goals with the worst of them.

Mark Stone – Second lines on the road is the way to go, and this second line has been playing markedly better than the first. I like their potential of putting a few into the back of the net tonight, and Stone should have his hands in on some of them.

Gustav Nyquist – Nyquist has a good little streak going, and, while Columbus has been playing better, I do not believe they are over their defensive woes. With that said, the top line has been awful, but should still garner all the defensive attention, leaving Nyquist with space to operate.

Valeri Nichushkin –I like cheap players! Dallas is in a great spot tonight against Montreal who is not playing like the team of years prior. While the 2nd line is not as threatening as Benn and Seguin, it still has a ton of potential, and I think tonight is a great spot for them.

Evgeni Malkin –Malkin is probably my favorite play tonight, as he is getting to take on the Islanders on the road. He is coming off a big game, and I feel like he is in a good position to have another one today. He is going to cost you, but I think he’ll be worth it.

Jack Eichel – Eichel should go under the radar, but the Rangers have been giving up goals and haven’t been doing well to kill the power plays. Eichel has a nice streak going, scoring again last night against Toronto, and even though they went to overtime, he should have enough left in him for tonight.

Jason Spezza– Spezza gets a few different plusses here, skating on the second line on the road but also being on the top power play. He is not exactly expensive, and he has a good matchup. He’s a great way to save over the struggling Seguin.

Brent Burns – Ever since his negative dud against Vancouver, Burns has been a man possessed. He gets another good opportunity tonight against Edmonton. I will fully admit I am not going to use him in my cash games tonight due to liking some other options a bit better, but honestly, none of them have the upside Burns does.

Shea Weber – I expect Nashville to score abundantly tonight, and I like Webers chances of being a big part of things. To me, he is a good pivot off of Burns, with maybe not the same upside, but still a good one. He is going to see lots of ice time and see the power play.

Justin Schultz – Schultz had once been a heralded prospect and many thought he was going to develop into a top tier hockey star. That hasn’t materialized, but if any city can revitalize a players offensive potential, it would be Pittsburgh. He is minimum priced, and I think he has a decent shot at some offensive output the way this team can score.

Ben Bishop – Bishop has been playing really well lately, and that is why I am playing him tonight. His ceiling is huge tonight. Boston should get a lot of shots off, which increases his value. His team has been playing mostly well too, and should score some goals. If everything fell his way, he could certainly see double digits, which is what I am paying up for.

Antti Raanta – Raanta is a bit riskier, but I’m expecting Buffalo to be tired tonight coming off of the overtime win over Toronto last night. He isn’t exactly cheap, but should be a decent bet to get the win points.

Good luck!
