Welcome back for another edition of our NHL Breakdown. Tonight, we have 9 games up for us, and some interesting pairings to boot. Last night did not go as planned, though I was close, so here’s to hoping tonight starts and ends better!

On to the picks!

WINGERS:

Jamie Benn – I love this game as being one where we could see a 5-4 score, and if that is the case, Benn will have his hand print on this game. He has done well in previous meetings this year, so why should tonight be any different?

Filip Forsberg – 2 hat tricks in 3 games, and now he is playing at home against a team that loves to give up goals even more than to score them? Yeah, I think I can buy into that.

Brad Marchand – Marchand is on my radar in a big way tonight. Last night, I loved the Giroux matchup, and he rewarded with 4 Assists. I LOVE Marchand tonight, and would be happy with half of that production, or even one of each. Either way, he is someone I will certainly be working into my lineup.

Jarome Iginla – He’s certainly not my favorite, as he consistently lets me down, but I expect the game plan to be to shut down the Landeskog line, leaving the Iginla line as the one with the better matchup.

Valeri Nichushkin – Who knows what the lines will look like for Dallas today, but regardless, I think Nichushkin carries a scoring chance every time he takes the ice. I do expect goals to be scored in this game tonight, and wouldn’t it be great to get one at a steep discount?

Robby Fabbri – Fabbri is certainly only a tournament play, but the rookie is certainly capable of paying his salary off. The opposition is not stout defensively and if he gets the chance, he could easily get on the score sheet. He has 7 points over his last 10 games.

CENTERS:

Patrice Bergeron – Calgary is on the road, and I expect Bergeron to see a lot of time on the ice trying to shut down the Johnny Hockey line. This should give them ample opportunity to score. I also expect Buffalo to be playing angry after their outing against Tampa Bay Sunday. This is a good spot for him.

Aleksander Barkov – I like the play tonight for Florida. I especially like using their power play line against one of the league’s worst power kill units. Tonight, we get that opportunity. Barkov has a three game streak of strong performances going I look for him to continue tonight.

Jack Eichel– Eichel faces off with fellow rookie Connor McDavid tonight in what should be an interesting game. For this one, I like the home team to put up some goals against this struggling Edmonton team, and I imagine Eichel will have a good night at a great price. In my cash games I like to use a 4×2 strategy, and tonight I imagine I’ll be going with Jack and his defensive counterpart.

DEFENSEMEN:

John Klingberg – Klingberg isn’t in play here because he is playing against a poor team. Nashville can certainly hold their own. He is here because Dallas is just a scary hockey team. They have so many players that can put up goals, and Klingberg leads them on the power play. Nashville, while they aren’t a horrible hockey team, is likely to give up some goals in this, and Klingberg should see himself involved in some of them.

Tyson Barrie – Barrie has been playing good hockey lately, putting up at least one point in 4 of the last 5 games. Tonight he is up against Minnesota in a matchup that isn’t threatening at all. I like his chances of getting on the score sheet.

Rasmus Ristolainen – This is a matchup based play, purely. Rasmus hasn’t been playing great hockey, but he has been playing a lot of it. Edmonton is a team Rasmus could get back on track playing against, and at his price, I am a buyer.

GOALIES:

Tuukka Rask – Rask is in a good position tonight against a struggling Calgary team. This team plays far worse on the road, as evidenced by their 5-3 loss to Philadelphia last night. I don’t think he will blank this Flames team, but should see a fair amount of shots and a good possibility of the W.

Robin Lehner – I’ve waited until the end of the list to lose you! It isn’t the sexiest pick at all, but based on the moves I want to make elsewhere, I am going to trust my gut that the Sabres can pull off a victory at home against the Oilers. He could get blown up, but something tells me he will give a strong performance tonight.

Good luck!
