Welcome back to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s MLB Quick Hits. The MLB season is only 1 week away! The excitement is in the air, and contests should open up soon! This is going to be an interesting time as more and more information is going to get thrown at us, but we will do our best to put out meaningful content to help the users maximize their fantasy league outcomes!

We will look division by division from here forward. It is tough to say if there will be a lot of information for each division, but nonetheless, we will do our best to cover all of the information we see.

AL East – Good news for the Baltimore Orioles, as it appears Matt Wieters will be ready for opening day. He is a good source for power and has gone undrafted in many leagues I am in because of this injury. One intriguing rumor going around is that Brock Holt may be taking more playing time from Rusney Castillo than it originally seemed. Rob Refsnyder has been optioned to the Yankees Triple-A club. Logan Forsythe will be the leadoff hitter in Tampa Bay.

AL Central – No news from Chicago on the opening day shortstop. The Indians optioned Giovanny Urshela to Triple-A. Additonally, Wil Venable was granted his release. Not a big news week here.

AL West – Evan Gattis is not going to be ready opening day. He says probably not, but he won’t. Most of the Angels pitching is still trying to work their way back into shape, but it’ll be awhile. Sean Doolittle looks like he will be ready for opening day. Yu Darvish is starting to throw, and can be had dirt cheap in most drafts right now.

NL East – Marcell Ozuna is dealing with an ankle issue right now, but is expected to be fine. Both Yoenis Cespedes and Michael Conforto are dealing with issues, but there are no major concerns right now.

NL CentralHomer Bailey is in his initial steps to come back from Tommy John surgery. Will Smith tore his LCL and will miss a significant chunk of the season, leaving the relieving duties to Jeremy Jeffress. Ryan Braun is also dealing with issues to his surgically repaired back, which isn’t something his owners want to hear. Reliever Jordan Walden of the Nationals is having some issues and may not be ready for opening day.

NL West – It is a very real possibility that A.J. Pollock opens the season on the disabled list. This is a newer development and wasn’t really expected. The Dodgers announced some or all of Howie Kendrick, Yasmani Grandal and Alex Guerrero may open the season on the DL.

Pretty slow week overall, but something tells me things will be busy this week! Only 1 week!
