MLB DFS Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings – 8/16/17

Welcome to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s MLB Breakdown. These picks are what I consider to be the best play of the day, relative to their price. One of the most important things we must consider in daily fantasy is how many points a player gets per dollar. It helps us identify value plays to pair with studs that we know will produce in order to maximize our potential points in lineups. I also try to identify plays that can be used in either cash games or tournaments. Typically, when I build my cash games, I am looking for players that have the best floor combined with good upside. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know!

Prices listed are FantasyDraft/FanDuel/DraftKings

Yu Darvish (26400/10400/13700) – Darvish looks better since his move to the west coast, and now he will get a nice home matchup against the sad White Sox. He should be a heavy favorite, as well as a popular target, and makes for a key play tonight.

Carlos Carrasco (21600/9600/11100) – Carrasco has a ton of strikeout upside, and is taking on a Twins team that could very easily end up getting shut down. I do think it will be fairly tough to fit both he and Darvish in, but if you can make it happen, I think that is what you should do.

Joey Votto (9600/4700/4900) – I feel like I really have not been able to use Joey Votto as much as I would like this year. Tonight, he gets a great matchup against John Lackey and his .383 wOBA, 38.2% fly ball rate, 22.5% HR/FB ratio and 33.7% hard contact. Votto is always a great cash game option and I love him in tournaments tonight as well.

Kris Bryant (10800/4400/5600) – Home Bailey is not good. Well, OK, maybe he is sometimes. Most of the time, though, he is not. Bryant has been hitting the ball extremely well as of late, and this makes him someone that I want to go after. I expect the Cubs to put some runs on the board tonight.

Adrian Beltre (9600/4200/5000) – Anibal Sanchez is a disaster when it comes to pitching to right-handed bats. He has allowed a .409 wOBA, 38.7% fly ball rate, 26.1% HR/FB ratio and 42.6% hard contact. You will want to get Beltre and some of the other righty bats of the Rangers in your lineups tonight.

Jay Bruce (9000/3300/4600) – If he does not manage to come through for us on Tuesday, he gets another solid matchup on Wednesday. Kyle Gibson has allowed a .381 wOBA, 33.5% fly ball rate, 12.8% HR/FB ratio and 35.6% hard contact. Bruce should be able to get things going tonight and I want some exposure to him.

Carlos Gonzalez (8100/3900/4100) – This has basically been a throw away year for CarGo, but his price keeps him in play. The matchup is fair against Mike Foltynewicz, who has allowed a .367 wOBA, 43.1% fly ball rate, 12.8% HR/FB ratio and 33.5% hard contact. With this game being in Coors it would be foolish not to at least consider him.

Chris Taylor (9600/3900/4900) – Taylor is outfield eligible in some places, so I am using him here. Carlos Rodon has dealt with a bit of a home run problem since his return. I want to give a guy like Taylor a look because I think he can take Rodon deep, and help Darvish on his way to a win.
