MLB DFS Picks – 9/6/16

Welcome to our MLB Daily Fantasy Breakdown! Today, we have a nice slate of Tuesday baseball.

We’ve got a long day of baseball ahead of us, so it should be fun. As usual, we have a variety of pitching options that we can choose at all levels, and a nice amount that we can target as well. This should make tournaments fun and diverse. I like what I saw as I started out my research today, and am looking forward to building some cash winning lineups! Let’s make tonight a good one, as there are a number of great contests that are being offered on FanDuel. If you don’t have an account, use our link to sign up for FanDuel.

Today, we will break everything down position by position. If you like what you see, don’t hesitate to follow us on Twitter @researchandwin and let us know we helped you or yell at us for leading you down the wrong path. With that out of the way, let’s move on to the picks:

COREY KLUBER – This is one of the worst days for pitching in a long time. Kluber is above and beyond the best option on the slate, and could in fact be the only guy I feel mostly comfortable rolling with in my cash games. The Astros are a team that have a ton of upside, but we’ve seen them get shut down quite a bit as well. He’s got nice strikeout upside, which is always a plus in these matchups. His price isn’t too prohibitive, and he is my top guy in both formats.

GIO GONZALEZ – Gio had a really nice start to the season before falling off a bit. It was to be expected. Gio is still usable in certain circumstances, which is why he makes it on this list tonight. He has enough upside in this matchup against the Braves that he is worth a look in tournaments, and he does give you an extreme amount of roster flexibility to build your lineups. The Braves do struggle more against lefties, so this isn’t just a wish and pray pick.

JASON HAMMEL – For the first time in all of the 2016 season, I have put all three of the top priced options into this breakdown. I just don’t like enough of the rest of the options to really want to use them in anyway. Fortunately, these guys are cheap enough that you can still get a nice lineup around them. It isn’t like we’ve mentioned three guys over $10k. The Brewers have been fair to target on the year, and Hammel will make it into a handful of my lineups.

YASMANI GRANDAL – Shelby Miller will take the mound today, and when they happens, I rejoice. He is a guy who has given up some big games to hitters, and I have a great deal of faith that it should happen again tonight. Grandal can definitely be frustrating for cash games, but he has some of the best upside in tournaments.

STEPHEN VOGT – Vogt has pretty much been a major let down after having a very strong season in 2015.The price is fair and the matchup is good against Ricky Nolasco, so we will give him a shot tonight. There is definitely some upside to him, but there is also a great amount of risk as well.

JOEY VOTTO – Votto is a lock in my cash game lineups right now, and a matchup against Rafael Montero is one that I absolutely want to take a part of. Votto’s price is fair for the upside, and I think he’s a guy you could comfortably build your team around today.

JOSH BELL – Josh Bell is one of my favorite tournament options, but it is tough to say if he will be in the lineup or not. His price is affordable, and he gets a plus situation against Luke Weaver. If he does make it into the Pirates lineup tonight, he is certainly worth a look.

DUSTIN PEDROIA – It has been awhile since Pedroia has made his way into our breakdown, but this is a great situation against Paul Clemens. In fact, it is so good that Pedroia actually makes it as my play of the night. I’m expecting big things out of him today.

WILMER FLORES – Flores is in an excellent position against Brandon Finnegan tonight. He is a high upside tournament option, who actually might be priced high enough that it will keep most players away. I’ve used him in the right situations and he’s made me a lot of money, and I think he can keep that momentum going tonight.

KRIS BRYANT – Wily Peralta vs. Kris Bryant? 90 times out of 100, it is likely that Bryant will be the guy you want to take. I’ll be buying heavily into him tonight, and I’m expecting him to come through with a big outing to pay off his high salary.

MARTIN PRADO – Prado is a guy who is a much better baseball player than he is a fantasy option, but a lot of times, those types make for great cash game plays. He has a relatively safe floor in this matchup against Adam Morgan, and can come through with a 20 point game every now and then. Tonight could be one of those nights.

COREY SEAGER – We talked about how I like to pick on Shelby Miller, and if I liked Grandal, then I really, really like Seager. His play has been fantastic in 2016 and is likely to grab NL Rookie of the Year. He should be a good bet for a nice game tonight.

ADAM FRAZIER – Frazier was just recently recalled from the minor leagues, and produced in both games since then. He isn’t as high of a prospect as Bell, but has still produced when given more than one at bat a game. He is dirt cheap and is worth a look as a punt option in tournaments.

MOOKIE BETTS – Much like Pedroia, Betts should have a field day in this matchup. He didn’t come through for us yesterday as our top play of the day, but he certainly has upside in this contest. He is expensive but he is more than likely going to give you something worthwhile.

TYLER NAQUIN – Naquin has seen his play fall off a bit after having a very good season after his call-up. Kluber is going to need some run support, and I think he’ll get it as the Indians are going up against a low level pitcher. Naquin is my favorite play on this team and could go overlooked tonight.

GREGORY POLANCO – The algorithm we use seems to really like the Pirates, and the last lefty I would look toward if Polanco. We’ve seen him have some pretty big games this year, and I think we could see it again tonight. The matchup is very good, and the price is fair.

J.D. MARTINEZ – Martinez makes for a good tournament play tonight, as he is fairly priced and in a good matchup. He has a ton of power upside, which is exactly what you want. He will likely be fairly highly owned since he plays on a powerful offense and has actually been hitting very well.

YOENIS CESPEDES – Cespedes is another guy I want to have some ownership on in both cash games and tournaments. We know all about the woes of the Reds pitching staff, and Yoenis provides us with another opportunity to go after them. I love the upside here and he’s my 1B behind Pedroia tonight.
