College Football Week 3 Recap
Week 3 may not have been as exciting of a week as some might have hoped but overall it was a very compelling week. Some teams showed that they were indeed for real while others showed they may have been overrated.
Best Game of the Week:
Alabama @ Ole Miss
This week the best game was actually difficult. A lot of games looked close but actually were very one sided, while other games were blow outs that many thought were going to be close such as Ohio State-Oklahoma and Florida State-Louisville. This game too was one sided but with the most compelling comeback. Alabama was down 24-3 late in the first half until a Calvin Ridley TD and an Eddie Jackson punt return TD brought Alabama within 7 at halftime. Ole miss staged a real late comeback with a late TD, onside kick and another TD but in the end Ole Miss never really regained the momentum it had early in the game and Alabama would win 48-43.
Fantasy Spin: The downside here is that the team lost ArDarius Stewart for several weeks, and he had been the team’s most explosive receiver. I do think Calvin Ridley is still the better receiver, and will be relied upon even more now, and Damien Harris is becoming a nice running back.
Biggest Let Down of the Week:
There has to be a dual winner this week because these 2 teams were embarrassed, out played and out coached this week. #2 FSU rolled into Louisville on a day where Louisville honored the greatest of all time, Muhammad Ali, and got knocked out. A 63-20 defeat puts this FSU team as one of the biggest let down this week.
On our podcast, College Football Pros, I suggested that North Dakota State could and would beat Iowa. People sent me messages on twitter saying I was crazy and no way that happens. Well, a late FG by NDSU would make me look like a genius and make Iowa look like a team that had no idea what was going on.
Fantasy Spin: There is no question that North Dakota State is a powerhouse that gets overlooked because they don’t play at the top level. Iowa is definitely out of the playoff picture and this loss certainly impacts anyone going ahead that they beat.
Biggest Winner of the Week:
A 43-point beat down of the then #2 ranked team in the nation has to be the biggest winner. While everyone thought this would be a close game, I think even people in Louisville would have called you crazy to see this outcome. Lamar Jackson has officially put the nation on notice that he is the man to beat right now in the Heisman race. With a tough schedule ahead, trips to Clemson and Houston, this team is a final 4 contender that every team needs to take seriously.
Fantasy Spin: Lamar Jackson is a guy that needs to be in your fantasy lineup each time he is on the slate. His weapons are all in play each week too. This is one of the best athletes we’ve seen in college football in quite some time.
