CFL DFS Picks for DraftKings – 2017 Week 8

Welcome to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s CFL Breakdown. These picks are what I consider to be the best play of the day, relative to their price. One of the most important things we must consider in daily fantasy is how many points a player gets per dollar. It helps us identify value plays to pair with studs that we know will produce in order to maximize our potential points in lineups. I also try to identify plays that can be used in either cash games or tournaments. Typically, when I build my cash games, I am looking for players that have the best floor combined with good upside. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know!

Last week was a very good week for the ResearchFantasy team, as I was able to take down 5th, 7th and 9th, among other solid finishes, in the $4 tournament that DraftKings refuses to raise the size of. This week is going to be interesting to say the least. I think there will be some very, very, very chalky plays, and we will talk about them here. As always, the ResearchFantasy CFL Premium Package is live and will definitely help you in your contests again this week!

Mike Reilly – $11000 – Edmonton Eskimos @ Ottawa RedBlacks

Yeah, Mike Reilly is really, really good. It does not matter the opponent. He has turned it on thus far, and is looking like a true MOP candidate. This now marks three weeks in a row that we have seen him cross the 30 point marker, something that basically no other quarterback has done this year period. Yeah, some have done it once or twice, but for the most part, Reilly has been a man among boys. The matchup is sweet against a RedBlacks defense that is second to last in the league against the passing game, and even with Adarius Bowman, Duke Williams and Brandon Zylstra beat up, he has all the tools that he needs to dominate once again.

Cody Fajardo – $8300 – Toronto Argonauts @ Montreal Alouettes

This pick is heavily dependent on a lot of things going right. Ricky Ray went down in the last game (and did not and has not looked good for a few weeks honestly) and that brought Fajardo into the mix. There are a few things at play here. First, Fajardo is dirt cheap, and with Mike Reilly performing as well as he is, I think the masses will gravitate to him (you will see why in a second). This gives you a completely different type of roster construction since Fajardo is almost $3k different. Second, you will get a lot of rushing opportunities with Fajardo. While it is true that it will be at the sacrifice of passing yards, rushing yards (and rushing touchdowns) are far more important. This depth chart will be out before lineups lock on Thursday, so we will have more information then.

LaDarius Perkins – $3000 – Edmonton Eskimos @ Ottawa RedBlacks

This really shows how little DraftKings cares about their CFL product. Perkins, who just rushed for over 100 yards last week, is priced at basically nothing, which is going to cause his ownership to hover probably higher than any other player this week. Edmonton has shown a commitment to try to run the ball, so those 16 carries are likely to be static. He is a no brainer for cash games, and certainly someone to think about for tournaments.

Anyone Else

Honestly, I imagine that Perkins is going to be like 70%+ owned this weekend. That makes pivoting from him in tournaments a rather easy decision. Does that mean I am going to not play him? No, I am not stupid. However, the whole mentality of playing a minimum priced player is to play anyone else you want, and in the CFL, the highest priced players do not always score the most points. There is also no guarantee that Perkins will do well (see Harris, Andrew from last week) and tons of lineups drop. I think my favorite play in this range is William Powell, however, he did sit out the fourth quarter last week due to what seemed to be hamstring tightness. It has been confirmed that Powell will miss, making Mossis Madu Jr. a great pivot from Perkins.

Darvin Adams – $7600 – Winnipeg BlueBombers @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats

What, did you think we were going to make it through a breakdown without going after Hamilton? That’s a good one! Neither Vidal Hazleton or Bryant Mitchell disappointed last week, and I do not think Darvin Adams will disappoint this week. Adams is a quality option at a price that is not inflated too badly. I like him as my favorite receiver this week, and would not be shocked if he finished with over 100 yards and a few scores. Yes, that is lofty, but Hamilton is that bad.

Chris Williams – $8500 – BC Lions @ Saskatchewan Rough Riders

Williams is a dynamic playmaker and probably the fastest guy in the CFL. The Rough Riders are a solid enough defense, but the reality is that they do not have anyone who can shut Williams down. He looked good in his return to action last weekend, and I suspect with another week under his belt, he should take the next step forward. With pressure needing to be put on both Emmanuel Arceneaux and Bryan Burnham, I think Williams could go underlooked by both the defense and DFS players.

Bryant Mitchell – $4500 – Edmonton Eskimos @ Ottawa RedBlacks

Mitchell was in a great matchup last week, and gets another great matchup this week. With Brandon Zylstra questionable, Mitchell could face an even bigger workload this weekend. He is a quality player, who has a price that is absolutely laughable. I will have him in a ton of my lineups again and I would suggest that you do the same.
