CFL DFS Picks for DraftKings – 2017 Week 6
Welcome to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s CFL Breakdown. These picks are what I consider to be the best play of the day, relative to their price. One of the most important things we must consider in daily fantasy is how many points a player gets per dollar. It helps us identify value plays to pair with studs that we know will produce in order to maximize our potential points in lineups. I also try to identify plays that can be used in either cash games or tournaments. Typically, when I build my cash games, I am looking for players that have the best floor combined with good upside. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know!
Last week was by far the most interesting week in the season for the CFL. Things didn’t go “by the book”, though, outside of Kevin Glenn, no one really busted too hard. The Glenn thing is unfortunate, as I thought the RoughRiders would need to pass the ball a lot. Well, they needed to, but they just could not. This week, DraftKings adjusted the prices in a major way, so creating lineups will not be as easy as dropping in whoever you want this week. That will make it ever so important to get the deepest insight offered, which leads me to suggesting our reasonably priced at $5 a week CFL premium package.
Let’s get things moving!
Bo Levi Mitchell ($10800) – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have been awful on defense. It is so bad, that opposing passing offenses are putting up over 400 passing yards against them! With five weeks in the book, that is really saying something. While it certainly is possible that Calgary could default to the run game and allow Jerome Messam to run wild, I really do not see that happening. The Tiger-Cats actually defend the run reasonably well, but a lot of that is because teams know they can hurt them in the passing game. After losing some defensive parts last week, I would expect things to be worse against a Stampeders offense that still has not seen Mitchell put up a big game. It is going to happen sooner or later, and I think this week we will see him put it all together.
Jeremiah Johnson ($7600) – Last week was the first week that Johnson, who commanded almost 40% ownership in a lot of the tournaments, really could not get things going. Sure, he did score a touchdown, but outside of that, it was the Travis Lulay show. I do not think that is how the game script will go, as the Eskimos have a stifling passing defense, allowing under 230 yards per game this year. While Lulay looks awesome, I do think feeding Johnson will be the key to success this week for the Lions.
Anthony Coombs ($5300) – Coombs is putting together a nice rapport with Ricky Ray, which is going to keep me going back to the well again this week. The price did not come up too much, and if he is going to continue to be used as a running back and as a slot back, he will find his way into pretty much all of my lineups. You can expect to see a big jump in ownership on him this week, and deservedly so. He has a ton of upside at this price, so this is going be a route that I think you need to go this week.
Brandon Zylstra ($8900) – It feels weird that Zylstra is the most expensive active receiver this week considering he was just $4400 to start the year. He gets another terrific matchup this week, as the Lions have allowed over 100 yards receiving to his position on average this year. There is good reason to believe that the higher pricing, combined with his teammate Bryant Mitchell being quite a bit cheaper at just $4k, we could see lower ownership on Zylstra. I somewhat doubt that is what is going to happen, but we can wish, right?
DaVaris Daniels ($7100) – I think that Daniels could be the lowest owned receiver this week on the Stamps, with Kamar Jorden, Marquay McDaniel and even Lemar Durant possibly seeing higher ownership. However, Daniels has an amazing matchup this week. Knowing that this defense can be beat and that he really wants to get going this year, I would expect Mitchell to try a few deep shots. With how bad this Hamilton defense is playing, I could see Daniels and Mitchell combining for high yardage totals and a touchdown this week. He is my favorite tournament option.
