Best NHL DFS FantasyDraft, FanDuel and DraftKings Picks & Tips – 3/7/17

Welcome to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s NHL Breakdown. These picks are what I consider to be the best play of the day, relative to their price. One of the most important things we must consider in daily fantasy is how many points a player gets per dollar. It helps us identify value plays to pair with studs that we know will produce in order to maximize our potential points in lineups. I also try to identify plays that can be used in either cash games or tournaments. Typically, when I build my cash games, I am looking for players that have the best floor combined with good upside. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know!

Prices listed are FantasyDraft/FanDuel/DraftKings

Centers:

Mike Fisher (9999/4600/4100) – Mike Fisher starts things off today on this road matchup against the Anaheim Ducks. This is a situation I have no issues at all taking advantage of, as I think that this second line is in a great position against a leaky defensive team. The price is too good to be true, and even though he isn’t very consistent, he makes for a nice salary relief play in tournaments.

Connor McDavid (9999/8800/4800) – McDavid has been as good as expected going into the end of the season, and makes our top overall play tonight. The Islanders can give up goals with the best of them, and with this on his home ice and the fact that he’s just been so good as of late, point things in the right direction for tonight. He’s playable in all formats this evening.

Ryan O’Reilly (9999/6400/4800) – I love the matchup tonight for Buffalo, which oddly is something that we usually say when talking about the teams playing Buffalo. The Philadelphia Flyers have been giving up some big games, and with this game being on their home ice, I think Buffalo will come through in a big way. The price is very nice on him tonight, and the first line makes a great stack.

Ryan Kesler (9999/6300/4500) – I’m locked in on playing Nashville and whoever they play because typically, there is little to no defense played. That is what we always want to say about our games from a fantasy perspective. Kesler earned his promotion to the teams top line, and should be in an excellent position tonight to post another big outing as the regular season begins to wind down.

Wings –

Boone Jenner (9999/4800/4500) – I love the spot for the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight, and I love the fact that I can get Boone Jenner in a matchup like this at this price. The Devils aren’t a good team at all on the road, and I suspect that the Blue Jackets will be able to put together a game where they can score at least 3 goals. The likelihood of Jenner being involved in one of those is pretty good.

Sebastian Aho (9999/5100/4800) – Another team we like to target when they are on the road is the Colorado Avalance. The Hurricanes are a team I don’t mind using at all, and though most of my exposure to them this year has been with Rask and Skinner, Aho has been the third wheel on that bus. I think he’s poised to get things back on track tonight and should be considered for your lineups.

Rick Nash (9999/6600/8100) – Nash has been decent in 2017, but this is a good matchup to go back to the well with. Florida isn’t a defense that strikes fear in the heart of the opposition. I think at his price, he’s a great play in tournaments tonight, and I will have a pretty healthy stock of him.

Andreas Athanasiou (9999/4100/5500) – One guy who is really, really, really risky is Athanasiou. He isn’t necessarily a guy that is very consistent or anything like that, but he’s got some speed and if he can break away from the Maple Leafs, there is no doubt he could end up putting one in the net. There isn’t a high likelihood, but there’s enough of a likelihood that he’s worth a look in tournaments.

Defensemen –

Rasmus Ristolainen (11600/5400/5700) – My favorite play at the position is Rasmus Ristolainen. He’s probably the defensive player I’ve put in my lineups most this year, and he’s won me a fair amount of money. Tonight, he gets a great matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers. They have been giving it up all year long, and tonight should be no different. I’ll take him at these prices any day, and you should consider it too.

Shea Weber (11600/5700/5600) – Next up, we’ll head over to the Montreal/Vancouver game and take a look at Shea Weber. He’s the most expensive option we’re bringing up at the position tonight, but he should be well worth it. He’s had a stellar first year as a Canadien, and I think there is a very good chance that things could continue tonight against their Canadian rivals.

Zach Werenski (10600/5100/5100) – Let’s off up another Columbus Blue Jacket tonight that we can use to stack with Boone Jenner. Werenski has been pretty solid this year, and comes into this matchup at a great price. The Devils really struggle all around, so it will be a good idea to use Werenski to get a nice priced option in your lineup. I think he should be good for at least a point tonight.

Oscar Klefbom (10500/4800/5100) – Another guy who really cemented himself this year is Oscar Klefbom. He’s been a guy I’ve paired with Connor McDavid with great success on more than one occasion. Tonight, the Islanders could really have their hands full with this young, exciting player, who has a to of upside. It doesn’t hurt that he’s the least expensive option in our breakdown tonight.

Goalies –

Minnesota Goalie – It’s tough for me to look past Devan Dubnyk tonight on his home ice with how good he is playing. If you’ve been reading these for awhile, you’ll know that one of my superstitions is playing goalies on their home ice. St. Louis has been mediocre at best, and I think this is a great time to target Dubnyk.

Toronto Goalie – It’s a crazy situation when you are putting the Toronto goalie on your short list of possible plays. Detroit has just been bad and it makes sense to get some exposure to the net-minder of the Leafs.
