Best NHL DFS FantasyDraft, FanDuel and DraftKings Picks & Tips – 3/6/17

Welcome to another edition of ResearchFantasy’s NHL Breakdown. These picks are what I consider to be the best play of the day, relative to their price. One of the most important things we must consider in daily fantasy is how many points a player gets per dollar. It helps us identify value plays to pair with studs that we know will produce in order to maximize our potential points in lineups. I also try to identify plays that can be used in either cash games or tournaments. Typically, when I build my cash games, I am looking for players that have the best floor combined with good upside. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know!

Prices listed are FantasyDraft/FanDuel/DraftKings

Nicklas Backstrom (9999/6800/4100) – Starting things off on a really short Monday night slate will be Backstrom skating on his home ice against the Dallas Stars. The Stars are one of our favorite teams to target, and the Capitals are one of our favorite offenses to target. This makes things very simple and easy tonight. I love the upside the top line of Washington brings to the table, and Backstrom isn’t overly expensive to boot.

Bryan Little (9999/5100/4800) – Next up at the center position, we can move to the Winnipeg Jets’ top line center, Bryan Little. The Sharks have not been very good at keeping the puck out of the net, and I suspect that things won’t get any better with them on the road. The price here is way too good to be true, and I don’t mind loading up on him and his line mates tonight.

Wings –

Ondrej Palat (9999/5000/4500) – One of the best values on the slate tonight is going to be Ondrej Palat. This has been such a potent scoring line that it makes no sense for you to not play him tonight. There aren’t a ton of players that could be in position to put up an outing with multi-points at this price, so you might as well take advantage of it while you can.

Nikita Kucherov (9999/8000/4800) – I do feel bad about going this route tonight, but I’m going to anyway. If you are going to play Palat, it is also because you are going to play Kucherov, who is the one who really makes this top line so dangerous. He’s a lethal scorer to go along with a great facilitator, so he is definitely worth the cost tonight.

Defensemen –

John Carlson (9999/5600/4900) – I am most likely going to have a ton of Washington stacks, and many of them will have John Carlson. He is the best offensive defensemen this team has, and I think it’s realistic that he could come through with a multi-point outing. That’s why I have him above Brent Burns here. Burns is unquestionably a better floor play, but at this price, I would rather lock in Carlson in more of my lineups.

Brent Burns (9999/8400/5800) – I just mentioned Burns above, but I am more than willing to mention him again. Yes, he’s expensive, but there is no one else at the position that can do what he does at a consistent pace. The price will turn many players off, but not this one. I could see him having another huge game against a Winnipeg team that won’t have a hope in defending him. If you can fit him, he’s always worth a look.

Goalies –

Washington Goalie – I don’t know if there is a goalie that I have written up more in the last month than Braden Holtby. He’s been extremely solid and has been getting a nice streak of strong matchups. He’s expensive, but for cash games, he’s a must, and he’s even playable in tournaments.
