Best NHL DFS FantasyDraft, FanDuel and DraftKings Picks & Tips – 2/16/17
Prices listed are FantasyDraft/FanDuel/DraftKings
Patrik Berglund (8900/4300/4400) – Berglund makes our breakdown for now the second day in a row, after not appearing all year. For what it is worth, the game has actually not started at the time of this writing, so who knows if his streak is ongoing. The price is far to cheap for someone who was doing what he had been doing as of late. He gets an elite matchup against the Canucks tonight, on his home ice, so I think he should be able to continue his recent hot streak.
Sidney Crosby (17600/8800/8500) – Crosby is always someone that goes in at least 25% of my lineups because he is one of the leagues elite scorers. The upside in a game against a leaky Winnipeg defense on his home ice is definitely something we should go out of our way to take advantage of. His price is actually pretty good for what we’ve seen it at in spots this year, so I think he’s probably our best case scenario for our cash game lineups tonight.
Anze Kopitar (11100/6500/5400) – Kopitar hasn’t really been playing very well, but with this game on home ice, and the past several games taking place on the road, I think that Kopitar could come back into form tonight. He’s definitely more of a tournament play because he hasn’t at all been consistent, but the price is intriguing for the matchup. It’s no secret that the Arizona Coyotes, the opponents tonight, aren’t very good, so I can see there being some nice upside here.
Eric Staal (13200/5600/6300) – Staal has been pretty solid this year, and he makes this list most specifically because of his price point on FanDuel. He’s just too cheap there tonight in a home matchup against the Dallas Stars. I will gladly take him in all formats, even though he hasn’t been lighting the world on fire, because I think this is the time for him to snap out of his funk and get back on the score sheet.
Taylor Hall (13900/6800/6700) – Taylor Hall is probably my favorite player of the day, when considering matchup, price and opportunity. The Senators are a team that I like to pick on, and I love Hall’s game in general. The price here is too low, as I think we could really see him very active, taking shots and setting his teammates up for shots as well. I think he’s in for a big game and he tops out list tonight.
Anders Lee (11800/5500/5700) – Anytime this Islanders team is at home and facing a questionable defense, I like to run them out. This line won me a ton of money in 2015, and I can see it doing so again in 2017. Lee is highly affordable, and I’ll gladly take the plunge on anyone skating with John Tavares. They could be in for another big night here, and you are buying in at a very low price.
Patrick Eaves (11000/5300/5300) – Patrick Eaves is another cheaper options that we can look into tonight in order to really open our lineups a bit more. The Wild do struggle with wingers that fit Eaves profile, and even though we know the Stars are more fun to pick on, they do pack a nice wallop on offense as well. I think Eaves could very well come through tonight and pay his salary off.
Jakub Voracek (12900/6600/6200) – I know I’ve already hit the button to go back in time and talk up the Islanders top line bringing me luck in the past, but the same thing can be said about Voracek. He’s been good again this year, but he’s at a price that would make you think he’s only been alright. The matchup is excellent against the Oilers and I could see the Flyers scoring some goals, even with this game on the road.
Kris Letang (12900/7200/6300) – I am thinking, and thinking, and thinking. I don’t think I’ve written up Kris Letang at all this year! It’s been a tough one in terms of injuries, but he’s back and he’s been on point, so I see no reason to dodge him tonight. I think I’ll be running out a ton of Letang/Crosby lineups tonight, and I have a feeling that is going to work out really well for us.
Rasmus Ristolainen (12000/5100/5900) – Rasmus is another one of my favorite NBA DFS options, and he will absolutely be seeing his way into many of my lineups. The price is too cheap everywhere, as far as I am concerned, and I don’t see any reason to look elsewhere. We know how bad the Avalanche can be, especially on the road, so it makes a lot of sense to look at some of them in our lineups tonight.
Jared Spurgeon (10500/5100/5100) – It can be said at this point in DFS lore that the Dallas Stars are classically bad at defending defensemen. This is the stuff legends are made of. It’s been this way as long as I’ve been playing DFS. Minnesota has seen their unit struggle a bit, but at this price, I think Spurgeon is a fantastic option. He could certainly see himself on the score sheet tonight.
Ryan McDonagh (11300/5400/5500) – I really don’t say this too often, but I really like all of the defensive options in the game tonight. I don’t think you can go wrong with what we have offered, and I’m going to do what I can to basically just rotate these guys and the stacks surrounding them in and out of my lineups. The Islanders are also pretty poor at the defensive position, so I feel comfortable on all accounts.
Pittsburgh Goalie – This could be one of the easier calls of the day. The Penguins are the highest favored team on the board, and they are in an amazing home matchup against the Winnipeg Jets. I think my strategy is going to feature loading up on Penguins. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Buffalo Goalie – If you want to make a pivot move to try to differentiate, I think we could also look at the Buffalo goalie tonight against an awful Colorado Avalanche team. I think ownerships will be decently spread around that he could go a bit underlooked.
