College Football Week 8 Recap

Week 8 had the biggest upset of the year as #2 Ohio State went on the road to Penn State and could not come away with the W. Other top teams held serve and many teams made statements such as Alabama and Washington at home. With over half the season played teams are now positioning themselves not only for the final 4 but their own conference title games and if week 8 is the start of the chaos the next month or so is going to be beyond fun to watch. Best Game of the Week: Oklahoma-Texas Tech  Defense optional in this 66-59 W for the Sooners. Normally 545 yards passing would be a great day, unless your opponent throws for 734 yards and tied the NCAA record for yards in a game. Baker Mayfield has to be happy with the W but has to be even more impressed with the rest of his offense. Joe Mixon had 5 tds in the game and the defense came up with a stop when they needed it, although it was one of the few stops of the game as only 4 punts happened. Biggest Let Down of the Week: Ohio State Going to Happy Valley and playing a Penn State team with nothing to lose ended the Ohio State winning streak and put a damper on the final 4 hopes. A...

College Football Week 5 Recap

After 4 weeks of mostly teams playing other teams below them, we finally get into conference play and the real season starts. Sure, we knew Washington had a good offense against teams like Portland State and Idaho but how would they do against a top Pac-12 team? We knew Louisville had an explosive offense at home but what about on the road against a top 5 team? The real season started this past weekend and a lot of questions were answered but even more questions were left unanswered. Best Game of the Week: Way too many Louisville-Clemson was a back and forth game that saw Lamar Jackson, in my opinion, jump even further into the Heisman lead that I don’t see who, how, or what can catch him now. 295 yards passing and 162 rushing has put Jackson far and away the person to catch in the Heisman race. Wisconsin-Michigan was a slug fest that saw Michigan hold serve at home with a 14-7 victory and sets up a clash op top 5 teams later on in the season with Ohio State if both teams hold. Wisconsin showed that a good defense will only get you so far and a bad offense will cost you games, seasons and eventually your job. Tennessee-Georgia had it all. Late touchdowns, heartbreak, dumb penalties, then another late touchdown and heartbreak on the other...

College Football Week 4 Recap

College Football Week 4 Recap Four weeks into the college football season and we have learned one thing for sure: this season was something no one could have guessed. Louisville and Houston are both ranked in the top 10, Les Miles fired from LSU, and more people talking about officiating than ever before. This season so far is also another reason I feel the rankings mean nothing until week 5. Both LSU and Oklahoma were ranked in the top 5 preseason and now both are unranked. Best Game of the Week: LSU @ Auburn Les Miles went from 3-1 looking good in the SEC moving forward to 2-2 and looking for a new HC and OC. Les Miles was fired after a 18-13 defeat that was a win then a defeat again. Danny Eitling found DJ Chark as time expired to take a 19-18 lead and win until it was determined by replay that he had not got the snap off and time expired which gave Auburn the win. The biggest takeaway was not that LSU had lost but how they lost. The play before that, LSU completed a pass in the middle of the field and with the clock running and no timeouts left so LSU was forced to hurry up which led to an illegal shift then the fateful last play. Les Miles being fired sets up an...

College Football Week 3 Recap

College Football Week 3 Recap Week 3 may not have been as exciting of a week as some might have hoped but overall it was a very compelling week. Some teams showed that they were indeed for real while others showed they may have been overrated. Best Game of the Week: Alabama @ Ole Miss This week the best game was actually difficult. A lot of games looked close but actually were very one sided, while other games were blow outs that many thought were going to be close such as Ohio State-Oklahoma and Florida State-Louisville. This game too was one sided but with the most compelling comeback. Alabama was down 24-3 late in the first half until a Calvin Ridley TD and an Eddie Jackson punt return TD brought Alabama within 7 at halftime. Ole miss staged a real late comeback with a late TD, onside kick and another TD but in the end Ole Miss never really regained the momentum it had early in the game and Alabama would win 48-43. Fantasy Spin: The downside here is that the team lost ArDarius Stewart for several weeks, and he had been the team’s most explosive receiver. I do think Calvin Ridley is still the better receiver, and will be relied upon even more now, and Damien Harris is becoming a nice running back. Biggest Let Down of...

College Football Week 2 Recap

College Football Week 2 Recap Week 2 was supposed to be a week where all the top 25 teams rolled to easy victories and teams took a week off. Well some teams took a week off and paid for it by either losing or coming away with close wins. Many teams may have been looking ahead to week 3 matchups that look more interesting. Let’s take a look at some of the action from week 2. Best Game of the Week: Central Michigan @ Oklahoma State The scoreboard says CMU won the game 30-27 but a blown call by the officials will have everyone thinking OK State won the game. With 4 seconds left in the game OK State QB Mason Rudolph throws a ball out of bounds to end the game, problem was that he was not out of the pocket and it was ruled intentional grounding which should have still ended the game. The refs instead decided to give CMU 1 untimed down where QB Copper Rush connected with WR Jesse Kroll who then would lateral the ball to Corey Willis for the TD. Heartbreak for OK State who should have never been in this situation to leave it up to the officials anyway but it seemed like they were overlooking a pretty good MAC team in Central Michigan. Fantasy Spin: Oklahoma State appears to be,...
